Rope Bridge over River

Although this bridge and stream are beautiful, the main purpose of the YMCA Rope Bridge project is to get hikers and campers an easy way to access hundreds of acres of trails on the other side, where no road crossings are possible. We can build bridges in remote areas and usually find ways to tackle difficult or intimidating bridge and treehouse projects. We can determine whether it is better to construct ground-based towers or use trees for support and evaluate whether to use trees or ground anchors for support.

Designing a Rope Bridge

There are thousands of pounds of standing tension on a bridge like this, even with no people on it. So it must be designed with strong cables and anchors on either side. It also must be designed so that the walking surface is high enough above the water so that when you get that 100-year flood, and a tree is floating down the river, it doesn't snag in the netting and water backs up and the bridge gets wiped out. Sometimes this means building 10-15' higher than normal water levels, but a little research or examination of the surrounding terrain may help answer this question. We have a few different styles of bridges that we can apply to your situation, and we choose based on factors such as available trees, soil conditions, height, span, and expected use. Budget is a secondary concern - Safety and suitability come first.

How Much Does this Bridge Project Cost?
